Barbara L. Barber, 45, died unexpectedly on Saturday, Aug. 18, 2012 in Bass Lake Township.

Barbara was born in Ashland on July 2, 1967, the daughter of Robert Hugo and Elaine Sharlow Bear. The family moved to Lac Courte Oreilles in the mid-1980s and she graduated from LCO High School. Barbara married Nelson Barber on May 17, 1997 at St. Frances Solanus Indian Mission in Reserve. She worked at the LCO Casino in the vault, as a manager of the LCO Quick Stop and most recently as a night auditor at various hotels in the Hayward area. Barbara liked riding around and spending time on the Internet and on Facebook.

She is survived by her husband, Nelson; three sons, Nelson Barber Jr., Nicholas Barber and Jack Barber; a daughter, Kristy Lee Barber; sisters Sheryl Gordon, Sharon Peterson, Valerie Hugo and Rebecca Peterson; a niece, Marissa Hugo, and nephew, Jordan Hugo, all of LCO; and other relatives and friends.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Jackie Hugo; her grandmother, Rita Lemieux; an aunt, Marge Hammer; and her father-in-law, Franklin Barber.

Funeral: A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2012 at St. Francis Solanus Indian Mission in Reserve with Fr. Gregory Hopefl officiating and music provided by Sister Felissa Zander.

Visitation: From 5 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 21 at Pineview Funeral Service, in Hayward, with a scripture service at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Interment: Burial was in St. Francis Cemetery.

Honorary Casket bearers: Lee Barber, Steve Barber, Dwayne "Diggers" Belille, Brian Delapast, Dean Gokey, Scott Guibord, Thomas Hammer Sr., Myron Lemieux, Jason Schlender, Jim Schlender, Justin Schlender, and Debra Smith.

Casket bearers: Bob Gordon, Corby Gordon, Dewayne Hammer, Jordan Hugo, John Peterson and Kelly Peterson.

In lieu of flowers, donations are preferred to the family.
