Phyllis J. Wise, ge 69, of Marshall died Tuesday, July 11, 2006 at Battle Creek Health System.

Phyllis J. (Baker) Wise, age 69, of Marshall, died Wednesday, July 11, 2006 at Battle Creek Health System after a courageous battle with cancer.

Phyllis was a lifelong Marshall and Marengo Township resident. She graduated Marshall High School in 1955. Phyllis was one of the youngest members of the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League from 1952 to 1954. She played for the Battle Creek Belles, the Muskegon Lassies, and the Ft. Wayne Daisies as a pitcher. she was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York in 1988.

Phyllis worked for State Farm Insurance Regional Office in Marshall for 23 years, retiring in 1978.

Surviving are her devoted husband of 44 years, Clifton R. "Cliff" Wise; sisters, Mar Jean Baker and Suzanne (Al) Durham of Marshall, and Carolyn (W.A.) McMillon of Pennfield; 2 brothers Harold "Bud" (Audrey) Baker and Larry (Judy) Baker of Marshall; and her much loved nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Bernadine Baker, and her sisters, Joan Marie Maker and Marilyn Demarest.

Friends may call at Craig K. Kempf Funeral Home Thursday, today, 9AM-9PM where family will be present to greet visitors and share memories 2PM-4PM and 6PM-8PM. Funeral services to celebrate and remember her life will be held Friday 10:30AM at Kempf Funeral Home. Interment to follow Marengo Village Cemetery.
