An Old Resident of New Albany Dies To-Day Very Suddenly. William C. Crane, an old and highly esteemed resident of New Albany, died to-day at his residence, 1316 east Elm street, after a brief illness, of rupture of the stomach. His age was seventy-three years. Mr. Crane was born in East Wilbraham, Mass., June 19, 1826. He had been a resident of New Albany for fifty years and was formerly engaged as Auditor of the Monon, afterwards in the manufacture of coffins, and for a number of years has been cashier of the K & I trains in this city. He had been ill but a few days. His wife, five sons and one daughter survive him, his children being Charles, William, Edward, Arthur and Martin Crane, and Mrs. Al. Wright of Corydon. Mr. John E. Crane, the queensware and hardware dealer on Pearl street, is his brother. The date of the funeral will be announced later. - New Albany Daily Ledger 06 Jan 1899
