Jerrold "Jerry" A. Black, CPA native of Joplin, MO and resident of Baton Rouge, LA passed away Sunday, June 24, 2012 at the age of 67 after a short battle with lung cancer. He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Linda Speaks Black; two sons and daughter-in-law, Todd and Candy Black, and Scott Black; two granddaughters, Madelyn and Meredith Black; one sister, Joyce Ann Carpenter and husband Allen; two sisters-in-law, Carol Bruno, and Margaret and husband Robert Patt; and brother-in-law, Wayne and wife JoAnn Speaks. He is preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Ruby Simmons Black; brothers-in-law, Mel Speaks, and Paul Bruno; and father and mother-in-law, James and Martha Speaks. Jerry graduated from Webb City High School and Missouri Southern State College in Joplin, MO. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy who loved to fish and was an excellent cook. Jerry was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend who will be missed by all who knew him. A memorial visitation will be held at Resthaven Funeral Home in Baton Rouge on Thursday, July 19, 2012 from 9 am until memorial service at 11 am.
