Doris Lorrayne (Adcock) Stern was born October 18, 1923, at Meadville, to Cecil and Ruth (Williams) Adcock. Doris was the eldest and the only daughter with five brothers. She passed away Friday,March 20, 1998, near Colome, SD, at the age of 74 years, five months and two days.
 
In 1923, Doris and her folks moved to Columbus, NE, for two years, then to Silver Creek. In 1926, they moved to Auburn and later, in 1930, they moved to Burton. After her father's passing in 1935, Doris and her mother and four brothers moved to Meadville. There she finished grade school. In 1939, Doris, her mother and brothers moved to northeast of Johnstown. There she attended high school and finished in Ainsworth.
 
Doris was united in marriage to Everett L. Stern on Valentine's Day in 1945, at Valentine. To this union one daughter, Barbara, was born. Doris and Everett made their home north of Johnstown for many years where they worked hard farming and raising cattle. In February of 1989 they moved into Ainsworth.
 
Doris was preceded in death by her parents, a stepfather, Merle Hedrick Sr.; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Nettie and Guy Stern; and two brothers, Dean and Donald Adcock. She leaves to mourn her passing, her husband, Everett, of 53 years; daughter, Barbara and husband, Robert Nordstrom, of Winner, SD; two grandchildren, Cheril Smith and Roger Nordstrom; two great-grandchildren, William and Kristal Smith, all of Winner; three brothers, Richard Adcock and wife, Louise, of Mason City, NE; Dale Adcock, of Janesville, WI; and Merle Hedrick Jr. and wife, Jinx, of Ainsworth; one brother in law, Gene Stern and wife Carlene, of Johnstown; two sisters-in-law, Madonna Adcock, of Ainsworth; and Maxine Adcock, of Pittsburgh,KS, and a host of other relatives and friends.
 
Funeral services were held on Thursday,March 26, 1998, at the Hoch Funeral Home, in Ainsworth. Interment was in the East Park Cemetery, near Ainsworth. The Reverend Howard Dixon officiated the services. Music was provided by Laurel Appleman. Casket bearers were Loren Appleman, John Appleman, Leonard Appleman, Reggie Pischel, Marty Graff and Raymond Chrastil. Memorials were suggested to the family in her name.
