He was the son of the late Cecil and Ruth (Williams) Adcock. He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years Doris Louise Hood Adcock. He is survived by a son Cecil L. Adcock (Pamela), daughter Marquetta Cahall, two grandchildren Brooke Schamber (James), Daniel Vincer (Andrea) and two great grandchildren Reid and Lila Schamber. Sister-in-laws Cleo Cooper and Ann Hood.

During his lifetime, he served in the USAF from 1947 until 1950. In 1952 he married Doris Louise Hood on June 15. After the birth of their son Cecil, the family moved to Rockford, Illinois. The family lived in Rockford for the next 13 years, during this time their daughter Marquetta was born. The family then moved to Jacksonville, Florida where they lived for approximately 6 years. Richard and Louise then moved back to Rockford.

Throughout his life he enjoyed woodworking, antiquing, gardening and camping. Richard and Louise moved to several different states and pursued several different careers before eventually retiring back to Jacksonville, Florida around 2005.
