Mildred Rose Putnam Wettstein, 97, of Ontario, Oregon, passed away Thursday July 19, 2012 at home.

Services will be at 10:00 am, Wednesday, July 25, 2012 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints ward building, 661 SW 12th St. Ontario. Burial will follow in Rosedale Gardens, Payette. Friends may call from 6 pm to 8 pm July 24, 2012 at Haren-Wood Funeral Chapel and one hour prior to the service at the church.

Mildred was born to John Melvin Putnam and Rosabelle Hoggan Putnam in Woodruff, Utah. She attended high school in Randolph, Utah.

Mildred married Louis Joseph Wettstein, May 15, 1934 in Salt Lake City, making their first home in Woodruff where Lou worked on a cattle ranch and Mildred cooked for the ranchers. They moved to Woods Cross, Utah, where Louis farmed and worked for an oil refinery and in 1946 they bought the family farm near Ontario and moved to Oregon.

Mildred was known for her love of family, music and the gospel of Jesus Christ. She spent her life giving to and caring for others. As an avid gardener, many benefited from her beautiful yard and garden.

She taught piano lessons for years, sang in choirs and in groups with many of her dear friends. Mildred has always served in the Church as an organist, pianist, teacher, Stake Young Women's President, Relief Society President and played for the primary children until she suffered a stroke at the age of 95.

Mildred and Louis served a full-time LDS mission to the Swiss Temple in Bern, Switzerland, from 1978-1979. Although she traveled extensively with Lou, Mildred was always happiest at home with family around her. Her cookie jar was always full and the grand children knew they were always welcome. Mildred and Louis were married 68 years, when he passed away in 2002.

She is survived by three sons, Louis Melvin and his wife, Kay, Richard Daniel and his wife, Pearl Kay, Mark Putnam and his wife, Kelly, all of Ontario; a daughter, Maureen Thomas Carnahan and her husband, Jon, of Salem; 24 grandchildren; and 50 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis Joseph, in 2002, sons, Kenneth Putnam, in 1991, and John Putnam, in 1999; a grandson, Lee Wettstein; two brothers; and a sister.

Mildred passed away surrounded by her family and loving care-givers after 97 years on this earth. "We love you Mom, you have been an example of grace, service and love, and we will miss your bright smile and hugs; may the Lord bless and be with you until we meet again, your family."
