Robert Elliott Cox was born in Jacksonville, Morgan County, Illinois in the fall of 1840, and married Mary Jane Forth. She was born in 1854 in Weston, Missouri to Jacob Forth and Armina Fields. Robert Cox died in 1915, but Mary Jane lived until 21 March 1940. Both passed away in Kansas City, Missouri, and are buried in Forest Hill Cemetery, Jackson County, Missouri.

Robert E. Cox, 74 years old, a retired stock commission dealer, died at his home, 2521 West Fortieth Street, Rosedale, last night. Death was due to heart disease. As stockman in Western Kansas and Indian Territory and, later, as commission man here, Mr. Cox had been identified with the Kansas City stockyards since 1880, when he came west from Morgan County, Illinois. He retired from his connection with the Rogers & Rogers Commission company two years ago. He is survived by two sons and three daughters; Lee A. Cox, president of Rogers & Rogers Commission Company, Horace B. Cox, with the same firm, Miss Grace B. Cox and Mrs. Homer Jett, Rosedale and Mrs. J. Blanford, St. Paul, Minn. Funeral service will be at the home at 3:00 Saturday afternoon. Burial in Forest Hill Cemetery.
