Funeral Rites For Retired Teacher, Miss Lillian Bappert: PERU, Ind. - Rites for Miss Lillian Bappert, 83, prominent retired teacher and life-time resident of Miami county who died at her home, 185 East Fifth street, Tuesday evening, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Allen funeral home. The Rev. Ernest E. Lawshe, former local pastor, will officiate and interment will be made in Westlawn cemetery at Denver. She was born here Jan. 27, 1871, to Michael and Dorothea E. (Snyder) Bappert, and moved to Denver with her family, but later returned when her father was elected county recorder. She received her A.B. degree from Indiana University in 1899 and was a graduate student at the University of Chicago. Head of the English department in the high school here for a number of years, she was in charge of the school newspaper and journalism classes. In failing health for several years, she retired a number of years ago. She also taught at Rochester for a time. A lifelong member of the Methodist church and past president of the Minnie Beecher Sunday school class of the church, she was a charter member of the Daughters of Union Veterans and American Association of University Women. She also belonged to the Monday Night Literary Club, the Rebekah lodge, Sima Delta Pi sorority and Indiana Women's club. She was elected to the Emeritus club of Indiana U. several years ago. The only survivor is a brother-in-law, Charles H. Howes. Friends may call at the Allen mortuary after 3 p.m. today.
