SAGO, Va. - James William "Shorty" Adkins, 70, of Sago, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 29, 2004.

Mr. Adkins was a member of Cool Springs Christian Church, was a lifelong tobacco and cattle farmer, and loved to hunt.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde Sr. and Macy Bradner Adkins and his father-in-law, Buster Williams.

Surviving to cherish his memory are his wife of 50 years, Shelby Williams Adkins; sons and daughters-in-law, Keith and Mary Adkins and Stewart and Debra Adkins; daughters and sons-in-law, Rhonda and Danny Robertson and Trenda and Tim Pasley; grandchildren, Jeremy and wife Kristie, Tabitha, Zack, Mallory, Chad, Ashlee, Logan and Luke; brothers and sister-in-law, Clyde Adkins Jr. and wife Jeanette and Dallas Adkins; sisters and brothers-in-law, Margie Shytle and husband Bob and Peggy Jamison and husband Ran; mother-in-law, Omar Williams and a number of nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, October 2, 2004 at the Adkins Family Cemetery with the Rev. Bob Moulden officiating.

Friends may call after 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 1, 2004 at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial donations in Shorty's memory be made to the Snow Creek Rescue Squad, 6057 Snow Creek Rd., Penhook, VA 24137; Snow Creek Fire Dept., 1400 Hatchett Rd., Penhook, VA 24137; the Cool Branch Rescue Squad, 7661 Grassland Dr., Sandy Level, VA 24161; Cool Branch Fire Dept., 340 Old Mountain Rd., Penhook VA 24137 or to a charity of your choice.

Arrangements are by Lynch Funeral Home, Rocky Mount.
