Funeral services for Corlena Van Zante, 95, Pella, were held Monday, Nov. 26, 2001 at Faith Community Church in Eddyville with the Rev. Kenneth Dykstra officiating and the Rev. Michael Kuhn assisting. Soloist Timothy Kuhn sang "Goin Home," accompanied on the piano by Janice Klein. The congregation joined in singing "Great is thy Faithfulness" and "When Peace like a River Attendeth."

Interment was at Highland Cemetery in Eddyville. Casket bearers were Timothy Kuhn, Lloyd Van Zante, Russell Aalsburg, Kenneth Robus, Steve Rozenboom, Charles Oldham, and John Venenga. Raymond Dielman was an honorary bearer.

Corlena Vander Wilt was born near Pella on June 4, 1906. She was the fifth of nine children born to Dirk and Barbara Groenenboom Vander Wilt Corlena graduated from Eddyville High School. She received her teaching certificate from Central College in Pella, then taught at rural grade schools for several years.

On Feb. 1, 1941, she was united in marriage with Harold John Van Zante at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. She continued teaching at Bayard, Hednck, and Ottumwa, demonstrating her concern for each child. In August 1942, her husband Harold was inducted into the U.S. Army and together they served in New Mexico. Following his discharge from active duty in February 1946, they returned to Ottumwa, where their daughter, Ruth Ann, was born. Corlena then completed her college education at Drake University in Des Moines. Following her graduation, she taught part time. Harold continued his employment at Sieg Company in Ottumwa, where he worked for more than 40 years, serving as purchasing agent Corlena supported him faithfully during all those years.

Following his retirement, the couple moved to Pella in 1986. Corlena became a resident of Hilltop Manor North in 1995. while her husband was being cared for in the Long Term Care Unit of the Pella Regional Health Center. He passed away there Oct. 25, 1997. Corlena remained a resident of Hilltop until her health failed in October of this year. She died Friday morning, Nov. 23, 2001, at the Inn Care Unit of the Pella Regional Health Center at
the advanced age of 95 years, five months, and 19 days.

Corlena was baptized at the Third Reformed Church in Pella. Her lifelong membership remained with the Faith Community Church in Eddyville, where she maintained an active church life. She enjoyed teaching Sunday School, music, and doing women's ministry.

Throughout her life, Corlena expressed love for the beauty of nature. A great joy in her life was caring for others. She was a devoted wife and a loving mother, grandmother, and sister.

Corlena was preceded in death by her husband, Harold; her parents. Dirk and Barbara Vander Wilt, sisters Jennie (Chris) Den Hartog and Nellie (Charles) Visscher; and brothers Bastian, Bert, and John Vander Wilt.

She is survived by her daughter, Ruth Ann, of Pella, who is married to Michael Kuhn; her granddaughter, Melissa Kuhn, of Pella; her grandson, Timothy Kuhn, currently studying at the University of Indiana in Bloomington, sisters Henrietta (Raymond) Bouma and Barbara, who is married to Raymond Dieleman, and her brother, Dick Vander Wilt, and his wife, Helen, all of Pella; sisters-in-law Wilma (John) Vander Wilt of Ottumwa and Mary (Lawrence) Van Zante of Ozark, Mo., and nine nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to the Faith Community Church of Eddyville. Arrangements were handled by the Van Dyk-Duven Funeral Home of Pella.
