Samuel Hansard was born December 2, 1811 in North Bull Run, Knox County, Tennessee, on a cold, snowy winter day. He was the son of William Hansard and Martha Christian, Samuel married Miss Arminia Louisa Weir on December 4,1832 in Knox County, Tennessee.
Samuel was shot and killed by the Missouri State Guards ( Militia), while attempting to protect his family and property. Apparently some of the Missouri Home Guards had been in a fight with some other men of the area and what transpired was that some of their own men were killed. They came by the Hansard farm and consequently the Hansard family was in deep danger and being threatened with their lives. Samuel tried to protect his daughters and his wife when he was shot and killed. Before the Guards left , Hansards' wife and daughters were molested in this tragedy. It was said that the two young ladies never fully recovered from the invasion and murder of their father. Samuel was buried in an unmarked grave on the family property in Humansville, Polk County Missouri. Samuel Hansards' son Raphael, assumed responsibility for caring for his two sisters who endured that home invasion.

His parents are buried in Hansards' Chapel Cemetery on Hwy 33, in Maynardville, Union County, Tennessee.
