Father Francis Broome, CSP, was born in the hamlet of Wooten Without in Gloucestershire, England on November 18, 1907, the son of a bookkeeper. His family immigrated to Canada in 1910 and settled in Toronto. It was there he met the Paulists and decided to apply to enter the community. He made his profession on June 25, 1925 and was ordained a Catholic priest on June 13, 1933.

Father Broome's first assignment was to parish and mission work based at St. Peter's parish in Toronto. In 1936 he moved to Minneapolis for Newman work before joining the mission band in Tennessee in 1939. He crisscrossed the South with the trailer missions for many years.

In 1952 Father Broome was appointed pastor of St. Rose of Lima in Layton, Utah, where he gave weekly radio addresses and continued to give some missions as well. In 1958 he was named procurator of the novitiate at Oak Ridge, New Jersey, and in spite of a mild stroke in 1959, remained in that position until 1962.

Through the 1960's he served as a parish assistant, first in Mobile, Alabama, and then at Good Shepherd Parish in New York City. In 1971 he was appointed to the parish and Newman Center in Clemson, South Carolina, where he served for nearly five years before heart problems led to his retirement.

He lived the remainder of his life in Florida. He died in the town of Englewood at the age of 70 on July 7, 1978, having served 45 years as a Paulist priest.
