Added by BL Hughes: Charles H. Dicey, for many years one of the well known residents of Ashland passed away at the home on Glove Street Wednesday after an illness of a number of weeks.

Added by Beverly: Son of Uriah and Joanna (Cross) Dicy of Bridgewater NH. In the 1860 census Charles was 5 born NH and had a brother George S born NH age 11.

In the 1880 census he was age 23 with his parents in Bridgewater. He was working on the family farm and was single at that time.

He married Delia M. Phillips May 21, 1885 in Manchester.

In the 1900 census Charles resided in Ashland NH, age 44, DOB Feb 1856, occupation baggage master RR, married 15 yrs, b NH, parents b NH. Delia M born Oct 1856,Michigan, parents born Massachusetts, age 43, married 15 yrs, Children: Florence M. b Sept 1888, George C. born Sept 1893 and Arthur R. b Sept 1896. His mother Joanna Dicey age 79 was also residing with him.

He died of an abdominal tumor in Ashland where he had been a resident for 40 yrs. DOB given was Feb 5, 1856, died age 70 yrs 3 mos and 7 days. Occupation was that of a baggage master.

Note: death record gives River Road Bridgewater as burial location. The old Dicey cemetery (B-17-010 NHOGA)in Bridgewater was bulldozed and his remains may have been removed to Green Grove in Ashland where he lived for many years or he may be in the Tobine-Heath cemetery (B17-006 NHOA cemetery) on River Road. I have placed him in the Tobine-Brown cemetery although I find no NOGA listing for this one. Memorial was originally in the Green Grove Cemetery, Ashland.

For many years he lived in Bridgewater and has been employed by the Boston & Maine Railroad at the station here for the past 30 years. He was a member of Mr. Prospect Lodge of Masons, Grafton Lodge, I.O.O.F., and Passaconaway Lodge, Knight of Pythias.

He is survived by a widow, one daughter, Mrs. Florence Sanborn, two sons, George C. and Arthur R. all of Ashland. Funeral services will be held at the Baptist Church Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock. The several orders to which Mr. Dicey belonged will attend in a body. The Ashland Citizen, May 16, 1926, p2.
