WALTER ELLSWORTH RICE

East Liverpool - Walter E. Rice, 76, of 49295 S. Meadowbrook Circle, died at 3:39 a.m. Friday at Salem Community Hospital after a one-month illness.

He was born July 1, 1913 in Wayne Township, the son of the late Jacob Ellsworth and Alberta Virella Walter Rice.

A lifetime area resident, he was a maintenance supervisor for 10 years for the E. Liverpool Campus of Kent State University, retiring in 1983.

Mr. Rice owned and operated his own farm in Gavers for many years, and was a bus driver for the Lisbon & Southern Local school districts for 37 years.

He was a member of the Bethel Presbyterian Church and the Wagon Train Association.

Survivors include his wife, the former Charlene M. Rowley, whom he married June 28, 1938; a daughter, Mrs. Joseph M. (Arlene Jane) Obertance Jr. of East Liverpool; and two grandsons.

He was preceded in death by a son, Walter Allen Rice on April 25 1985; a sister, Margaret Erla Rice; and a brother, Donald Harvey Rice.

Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Eells-Leggett Funeral Home in Lisbon, officiated by the Rev. David Hunter of the church and the Rev. Charles E. Bancroft of the Anderson United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Bethel Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorial Tributes may be made to the Columbiana County Chapter of the American Heart Association.
