PIONEER -- Vera P. Apfel, 94, of Pioneer, died Monday morning, July 19, 2010, at the Country Inn Assisted Living in Paulding, Ohio.
She was born on September 2, 1915, in Brown Township in Paulding Co., Ohio, to A. Ray and Edna M. (McClure) Bidlack. On September 27, 1938, she married Conrad J. "Cooney" Apfel, who preceded her in death in 1978. She retired from Waldron Industries, formerly American Heating-Warming & Ventilating. Prior to this she worked at Ohio Art Co. in Bryan. She was a member of the Pioneer United Methodist Church and the Rebekah Lodge 426.
Vera is survived by a daughter, Norma Jene Modan of Adrian, Mich.; two brothers, James E. Bidlack and R. Paul Bidlack, both of Grover Hill, Ohio; three sisters, Mrs. Henry (Emma R.) Rosengarden of Leipsic, Mrs. Raymond (Mary A.) Hoverman of McComb, Ohio, and Mrs. Dale (Edna M.) Spitnale of Oakwood, Ohio; six grandchildren, Ralph, Dennis, Robert and Bruce Ham, Sandra Hill and Linda Davis; several great- and great-great grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, Conrad; three grandsons, Conrad E., Roger and Ronald Ham; three brothers, Clarence, John, Marion; and two sisters, Dorothy Thompson and Irene Blythe.
Visitation hours for Vera will be on Wednesday, July 21, 2010, from 4-8 p.m. at the Thompson Funeral Home in Pioneer. Services will be on Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Pioneer United Methodist Church with Reverend Michael Raypholtz to officiate. Interment will be at Floral Grove Cemetery in Pioneer.
