Daily Herald (Provo, UT) - May 7, 2004. Deceased Name: Anne Cottrell Hackley died at her home surrounded by family and friends on Wednesday, May 5, 2004 from a 8-month-long battle with pancreatic cancer. She was born on December 18, 1937 in Ogden, Weber County, Utah. She was the last of five children born to Ralph Layton Cottrell and Vera Estella Layton. She grew up in Kaysville, Utah and the surrounding area, and graduated from Davis High School. She married Charles Moore Hackley III on August 18, 1961. This marriage was performed by Spencer W. Kimball. They had four children; Steven Charles Hackley, Paul Cottrell Hackley, Daniel Penrod Hackley, and Edwin Andrew Hackley. The marriage later ended in divorce on April 7, 1972 in Pecos, Texas. She then lived singly until her retirement in 2000, and then moved in with her son Paul and his wife Jennifer. She taught Elementary School for over 30 years in Kaysville, UT; Pecos, TX; Monahans, TX; El Paso, TX; and finally Misssoula, Montana. She was an extremely active member of the LDS Church and held various callings throughout her life. She was well known for her beautiful Soprano voice and would perform often, especially during the Christmas Season, in Handels Messiah. She would usually perform solos each year for this production. She sought out opportunities to serve other people. If someone was sick, ill, down, hurt or depressed, she was there to comfort them. She lived a humble life, never striving for anything more than to do what her Heavenly Father wanted her to do. Her humility never went unnoticed, and she gained a large gathering of friends and acquaintances wherever she went.

She is survived by her brother Ralph Layton Cottrell Jr. of South Ogden; and her sister Ruth Doman of Sacramento, CA; her three children and 11 grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Ralph Layton Cottrell and his wife Vera Estella Layton Cottrell, her brother Frank Cottrell, her sister Helen Cottrell Nelson, and her son Edwin Andrew Hackley.
