Born in Inverness, Scotland
Next to youngest child of John Littlejohn, Grazier, and his wife, Jean Robertson. He emigrated before 1760 and settled in Edenton, where he was a shipping merchant for forty years. He was Commissioner of the Port of Roanoke, Commissioner of Navigation, and on the North Carolina Council of State in 1785. In 1791, he built and occupied to the date of his death the house that now (2012) stands at 218 West Eden Street. He died from injuries received when his horse ran away and threw him from his chaise. He and his wife Sarah were members of Saint Paul's Episcopal Church. They were buried in the Blount/Littlejohn family cemetery on what later became known as Cheshire's Hill, but were moved in 1909 to Beaver Hill Cemetery by Bishop Joseph Blount Cheshire.
