MUSCATINE, Iowa – Harold A. Blake, Sr., 76, of Muscatine, Iowa, passed away on Monday, October 18, 2010, at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, October 22, 2010, at the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services. Casket bearers will be Doug Chalupa, Al Church, Frank Church, Dave Church, Randy Lear, Tim Steckman, and Roger Bates. Burial will be in Muscatine Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, October 21, 2010, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Harold's name.

Harold Austin Blake, Sr. was born on March 9, 1934, in Muscatine, the son of Eldon and Mildred Peters Blake. On July 18, 1954, he was united in marriage to Mary Louise Steckman at the Musserville Methodist Church. She preceded him in death on September 15, 2008.

Harold was employed by the Muscatine Journal for 40-years.

He was a member of the Muscatine Quarterback Club, Old Purple and Gold and was affiliated with Little League his entire life.

Harold enjoyed playing and watching all sports and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Harold was a great coach, sports historian and an avid Hawkeye and Muskie fan.

Surviving are his two sons, Kerry Blake and his daughter, Brandi Gonzalez and her husband, Angel, and their daughter, Hayden, and Brian Blake and wife, Jenny, and their two children, Bailey and Owen; one daughter, Becky Blake and her daughter, Heather Blake DeLong and husband, Stacy, and their daughter, Stella Grace, all of Muscatine; daughter-in-laws, Vicki Blake of Champaign, Illinois, and Jennifer Blake and daughter, Caroline, of Champaign, Illinois, and Tom Blake of Florida; and two sisters, Kathy Meyer and her husband, Ralph, of Burlington and Shirley Truitt and her husband, George, of Muscatine.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife; two sons, Mark Blake, stillborn on August 10, 1965, and Harold "Harry" Blake Jr. on December 3, 2007; and four sisters.
