William Howard Atkinson, 83, died Sunday, Feb. 18, 1996 at the Vista Grande Nursing Home, Cortez, Colorado. Mr. Atkinsons was born Oct. 27, 1912, in Quail TX to William I. and Elsie V. Atkinson. He married Inez Hartless Gulley in 1941.
He attended school in Quail and served in the Navy from November 1943 to November 1945. He moved to Colorado in 1950 where he farmed west of Pleasant View for 10 years. He retired from Montezuma County Road Department. He then worked a few years for Montezuma Valley Irrigation Company.
He is survived by one son, Royce of Cortez; three daughters, Shane Atkinson of Cortez; Joyce Haskett of Houston; Sidney Baxter of Fort Worth and two sisters Glennis Daves of Dove Creek, CO and Vena Kelso of Arriola, CO. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Inez; his parents; two brothers, Granville and W. I. Atkinson; two sisters, Sally Atkinson and Velma D. Wilson and one great-grandson, Scott Cheshire.
