CHESTER G. WOREL

WOREL, BACK FROM OVERSEAS TELLS OF CLOSE CALL TRANSPORT HAD WHEN SHELLED BY A.U.
Chester Worel, who was with the Cyclone Division in France arrived
home Saturday evening. Private Worel arrived in France too late to
see actual fighting but got a number of the thrills that go with the
combat. On the way over the transport on which he was a passenger was
torpedoed, the shock carrying away part of the stern of the boat. Had
it hit forward there probably would have been no one left to tell the
story as the transport was carrying ???? tons of high explosives. In
France he went through a railroad ?, a rather frequent occurrence ? in
which a large number were killed and injured. When the (illegible)…had
been ordered to the front and in a few days more would have been actual
service. Private Worel returned to this country before the holidays and
has just received his discharge at Camp Harrison arriving home on the
limited Saturday evening. He will again be associated with his father
in the Worel Hardware company.
