Death Claims Widely Known Area Musician
Arthur Truttschel, 79, of 1608 Washington St., widely known as a musician in
this area and who served as Manitowoc County sheriff from 1944 to 1948, died
Sunday afternoon at Memorial Hospital, Appleton. He had been a patient there
since Oct. 17.
Mr. Truttschel was born Oct. 22, 1882, in the Town of Mosel, Sheboygan County,
son of the late Carl and Ann Nagel Truttschel. His first wife, whom he married
in 1902, preceded him in death in 1912. He married Melina (sic) Schmalfeldt
Nov. 24, 1915, at Manitowoc. She preceded him in death Oct. 12.
Had Own Band
After his second marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Truttschel moved to Two Rivers where
he operated the Union House tavern and conducted the Two Rivers City Band.
He was employed at Manitowoc Shipbuilding, Inc., during World War I, also
conducting the Manitowoc Shipbuilding band. At one time, Mr. Truttschel had
his own band stand.
The Truttschels eventually moved back to Manitowoc where Mr. Truttschel was
employed at Mirro Aluminum Co. In 1923, he was employed by Aluminum Specialty
Co. and conducted that firms band. For many years he was a member of Manitowoc
Marine band. He retired from Aluminum Specialty Co. in 1955.
Mr. Truttschel was a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie No. 706, Masonic
Lodge 65, United Commercial Travelers and Wesley Methodist Church of Manitowoc.
Funeral Services.
Survivors include two sons, Bert of Manitowoc and Paul, of Appleton, a daughter,
Mrs. Reuben Voigt, of Manitowoc , two brothers, Theodore and William of Sheboygan,
seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Jens Funeral Home, Manitowoc,
the Rev. Donald T. Stannard, pastor of Wesley Methodist Church, officiating.
Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 3 p.m. Tuesday. Memorials may be sent
to Wesley Methodist Church.
