Another weary pilgrim in life's journey has received the summons home
and the soul of Mrs. Aletta Thompson, now rests with Him who gave it
birth. Seventy-four years marked the period of her earthly existence
and during the past few months she had suffered much, afflicted with
asthma. A few days ago she contracted a cold, and an illness developed
which it was impossible for her feeble system to combat. Her death
occurred at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Maria Edwards, North Seventh
Street.
Mrs. Thompson was born at Kragara (?) Norway, Dec. 16, 1826, and for
more than half a century had been a resident of Manitowoc, coming here
in 1844. She was mother of six children, four of who survive to mourn
her loss. They are; Mrs. Maria Edwards, Mrs. Martha Weblin, City(?);
Theodore Thompson, Denver, Joseph Thompson, St. Louis Mo. Decedent was
a woman whose life was the embodiment of faith and duty, whose chief
delight was found in the love of her children and whose nature was of
helpful and happy disposition. The lavish affection bestowed those near
and dear to her brought a generous return of enjoyment and gave to her,
in the declining days of her life, a happiness that even Death could
not shadow. Funeral announcement will be made tomorrow.
