JOS. TETEAK DIES FRIDAY AT HOSPITAL HERE
Operations Fail to Save Life of Well Known Local Hotel Proprietor
Death at the Holy Family hospital at 3:10 o’clock yesterday afternoon brought
to a close the active business life of Joseph Teteak, Jr., for the past 19
years engaged with his brother Henry, in the conduct of the Teteak Bros. Hotel
at 916 Chicago street. He was 51 years of age.
Mr. Teteak had been removed to the hospital in January and on the 21st of that
month submitted to an operation for hernia, another operation for gall stones
and appendicitis being performed in March. An attack of pneumonia which his
weakened condition was unable to combat, caused death yesterday.
Born in Gibson.
Born in the town of Gibson on February 5, 1880 he lived there until he was about
10 years of age when he moved to Kewaunee with his parents. He attended and
graduated from the schools of the latter city and in 1889 came to Manitowoc. For
about 10 years he was employed as a motorman for the Manitowoc and Northern
Traction company, resigning about 19 years ago to engage in the hotel business
with his brother and has continuously since that time been active in the conduct
of the business.
Leaves Wife, Four Children
On November 3, 1906 he married Miss Theresa Skarda who with his aged father,
Joseph Teteak, Sr., four children, Myrtle, Evelyn, Florence and Grace, all at
home; five brothers, Henry and Miles of this city, James and Anton of Chicago,
and William of Spruce, Oconto county; four sisters, Mrs. Richard Kubista, Madison,
Mrs. Adlph Kadlec and Mr. Andrew Wesely of Spruce and Mrs. Harry Richards of this
city and a stepsister, Mrs. Anton Kadlec of Spruce survive him. A brother, Frank,
died in 1918.
The body was removed to the Wattawa, Urbanek and Schlei mortuary where it will rest
in state between the hours of 2 and 4 o’clock tomorrow afternoon. It will be taken
to the home on Monday afternoon.
Members of the Z.C.B.J. in which he was actively affiliated and a delegation from
the Manitowoc Aerie of the Fraternal Order of Eagles will attend services to be held
from the home at 1808 South Tenth street Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock. Rev. Frank
Junek of Melnik will officiate at the services at the home and at Evergreen cemetery
where interment will take place.
