Petersohn, Louis "Louie"

Louis "Louie" Petersohn, age 85, made his transition, Wednesday, June 22, 2011, at St. Mary's Nursing Home. Louie was born on June 15, 1926, in Mishicot, son of the late Henry and Barbara (Peterson) Petersohn. Louie served in the Army during World War II from 1944-1946 as a member of the military police during the Asiatic Pacific Campaign. Louie received the Army of Occupation Medal—Japan, Asiatic Pacific Treatment ribbon with bronze metal star and Purple Heart honors. He was honorably discharged.

On June 14, 1947, Louie was married to the former Shirley Drossart at Two Rivers. The recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. Prior to retiring and traveling throughout the west with his wife, Shirley, he was employed with the Manitowoc School System and the Manitowoc Company.

Louie had many interests and enjoyed working with his hands. He was an accomplished craftsman and artist. Louie also enjoyed gardening. He was a member of First German Evangelical Lutheran Church in Manitowoc, volunteering his time and talents to the youth.

Louie is survived by his wife: Shirley Petersohn, Manitowoc; daughters: Linda McKee-Douchane, Arizona; Laurel (Billy) Schleis, town of Newton; son: Ken (Jean) Petersohn; daughter-in-law: Kay Petersohn, Manitowoc; five grandchildren: Jeff (Shelly) Petersohn, California; Jason (Jessica) Petersohn, Hudson; Mandi (Wayne) Hurkmans, Manitowoc; Andrea Petersohn and special friend: J.P., Manitowoc; Jesse Tadych and special friend: Amy Reh, Appleton; four great-grandchildren: Aubri and Halle Petersohn; Owen and Mady Hurkmans; two sisters: Betty Messmann, Manitowoc; Frieda Reynolds, Manitowoc. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. Louie was preceded in death by one son: Gerald Petersohn; six brothers: Henry, Alex, George, Leonard, Andrew and Emil Petersohn; and one sister: Marie Eslinger.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 27, 2011, at First German Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1033 South 8th Street, Manitowoc. The Rev. David Rosenow will officiate with cremation to follow. Relatives and friends may call at church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at 11 a.m. Burial of his cremated remains will take place at Evergreen Cemetery on Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. Military graveside rites will be accorded by VFW Otto Oas Post #659 of Manitowoc.
