Mrs. LaVerne M. Pabian, age 85, a Manitowoc resident, died Friday evening,
June 1, 2007, at St. Mary's Home in Manitowoc.
The former LaVerne Thiel was born June 21, 1921, in Manitowoc, a daughter
of the late Arthur and Wanda Schnell Thiel. The family moved to the town
of Liberty where she attended the Webster School. LaVerne was confirmed at
the Gjerpen Lutheran Church and graduated from Valders High School and the
Manitowoc Business College.
LaVerne was married to Raymond Pabian on June 26, 1950, and Raymond preceded
her in death on February 20, 1998. She was employed at the Manitowoc National
Bank and later for the Manitowoc Savings Bank for 15 years as secretary to
the president and as the bank's first female teller. She was later employed
as a sales clerk at Pranges.
LaVerne was a member of First Lutheran Church and served in many capacities,
including being a Sunday School teacher. She was also a charter member of the
Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.
Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law: Mark (Kathy) Pabian of Manitowoc;
six grandchildren: Laura Pabian of Portland, Ore.; Sarah Pabian of State
College, Pa.; Josh Pabian of Yuma, Ariz.; Jenna Pabian of Milwaukee; Nathan
and Adam Pabian of Manitowoc; one sister and brother-in-law: Alice (Lester)
Persohn of Greenfield; one sister-in-law: Alice (Lester) Persohn of Greenfield;
one sister-in-law: Doris Espen of West Bend; nieces, nephews other relatives
and friends survive.
Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, June 4, 2007, at the Reinbold &
Pfeffer Family Funeral Home of Manitowoc. The Rev. Steven Olson will officiate,
with burial on Tuesday at Evergreen Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call
Monday from 5 p.m. until the time of services at 7 p.m.
LaVerne's Christian faith was very important to her throughout life. Her
greatest joy in life came from spending time with her family. She also enjoyed
painting and collecting antiques. LaVerne particularly enjoyed sharing her
antique ornament collection with others by decorating Christmas trees at the
YMCA and the Rahr-West Art Museum.
