Arthur F. Thiel, 74, of 1109 S. 16th St., Manitowoc, died Friday morning at
Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc, after an illness of three months.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at First Lutheran Church,
Manitowoc, the Rev. Vernon E. Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen
Cemetery, Manitowoc.
Mr. Thiel was born May 24, 1886, at Chilton, son of the late Andrew and Minnie
Guergens Thiel. He married Wanda Schnell Nov. 8, 1913, at Trinity Lutheran
Church, Liberty, and they celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary in 1958.
They were members of the Gjerpen Lutheran Church, located near Valders, for
18 years.
Mr. Thiel owned and operated the Pine River Cheese Factory near Osman for a
number of years and later engaged in farming in the Town of Liberty until his
retirement 15 years ago.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Lester Persohn of Milwaukee
and Mrs. Ray Pabian of Manitowoc; two sisters, Mrs. Charles Schaefer and Mrs.
Alfred Lawonn of Chilton; five brothers, Herman of Neenah, John of Mayville,
Dodge County, William of Fond du Lac. Andrew of Chilton and Lawrence of
Milwaukee, and three grandchildren.
Friends may call after 2 p.m. Sunday at Urbanek and Schlei Funeral Home,
Manitowoc, until 10:30 a.m. Monday when the casket will be moved to the church,
where the body may be viewed from 11 a.m. until the time of service.
