Paul Otto Lerche, a ship fitter at the yards of the Manitowoc Ship Building
company, dropped dead of a heart attack five minutes after starting work at 7:30
this morning.
Mr. Lerche appeared in the best of health when he reached his work from his home
on route 1, Manitowoc, just west of the village of Rapids. Fellow workers took
him to the company hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. from the Wattawa, Urbanek and
Schlei funeral home, the Rev. Paul Blaufuss officiating. Burial will be in
Evergreen cemetery.
Mr. Lerche was born in Germany in 1890 and ?2 years ago married Miss Mary
Zeitler. In 1924 they came to this county and he operated a ___ farm until
taking employment at the yards here after the war started. He was a member of
the Shipbuilders union, No. 443.
Mrs. Lerche died six years ago. Survivors are a daughter, Mrs. Elroy Wolf, of
Brillion; two sons, Paul, Jr., of this city, Erwin, in the armed services
overseas; two sisters in Germany; and four grandchildren.
The body may be viewed at the funeral home from Wednesday evening until the hour
of the services.
