Jack worked as an overseer for a rich man.

In 1924, Jack was committed to the Eastern State Hospital in Vinita, Oklahoma, after an incident of threatening a man with a gun, where he stayed until about 1957. His wife and children would visit him often. Once when daughter Edith was about 16, she separated herself from her family and went in search of someone in charge. She wanted to know exactly why her father was there. Her mother caught up with her before she could find anyone in authority. Once outside with her family again, her father pulled her aside and told her it was not safe to roam around the building. When the family petitioned to request a 'day pass' to visit home, they were told that he could leave the facility, but could not return to the facility if he left. He did leave and returned to his family. Jack died on April 7, 1960 at the age of 77 in Fort Smith, Arkansas.
