Gerald Winegard
Gerald Thomas "Gerry" Winegard, 81, of Mediapolis, died Thursday, Dec. 18, 2003, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.
Born Nov. 16, 1922, in Burlington, he was the son of Clark and Rachel Dancey Winegard. On July 15, 1946, he married Jeanette Hartman in Burlington. She died Jan. 19, 2001.
Mr. Winegard first operated a Case Implement dealership in Mediapolis. From 1956 to 1986, he was production manager for Winegard Co. in Burlington.
He was 1940 graduate of Mediapolis High School. He was a World War II Army Air Force veteran. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Mediapolis and served on the city council from 1964 to 1967. He served as mayor from 1968 to 1971, 1976 to 1991 and from July 2001 to December 2001.
Survivors include two daughters, Lynda White of West Burlington and Rhonda Bourgeois of The Woodlands, Texas; one son, Terry Winegard of Evergreen, Colo.; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one brother, Richard Winegard of Missouri; and three sisters, Frances Schulte and Irma Koehler, both of Burlington, and Lorraine Elliott of Florida.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
