Mr. Newman was born March 7, 1921 in Stillwell, Illinois, the son of Eraz and Biddy Lowary Newman. He married Edith Hoppe on February 14, 1953 in Elvaston, Illinois. He farmed and was employed by Foote Mineral for 43 ½ years, retiring in 1983. Farming and horses were his passion.
He is survived by his wife, Edith; a daughter, Addie Deeder and her husband, Mark, of Pleasant Hill, Illinois; three sons, Alvin Newman Jr. and his wife, Pam, of Hamilton, Illinois, Larry Hoppe and his wife, Janet, of Basco, Illinois and George Newman and Cindy of Hamilton, Illinois; two stepdaughters, Mildred Haist of Donnellson, Iowa and Beverly Ann Dochterman of St. Francisville, Missouri; six grandchildren, Justin Hoppe & Rachel of Hamilton, Shaun Hoppe & Breanna of Hamilton, Tammy Mayer & Kenny of Pittsfield, Illinois, Michael Kissinger & Stacey of Hamilton, Megan and Danielle Newman of Hamilton; and seven great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and three brothers.
