Violet Bessie Fugate, 67, of Carthage, died Saturday, Aug. 7, 1999, at her home. She was born Oct. 14, 1931, the daughter of Ezra and Mae Lowery Newman. On June 29, 1949, in Bowen, she married G. Francis Fugate.
She is survived by three sons, Duane (Ruth) Fugate of Carthage, Eldon Fugate of Carthage, Rick (Etta) Fugate of Davis; one brother, Alvin (Edith) Newman of Hamilton; and two grandchildren, Mrs. Mike (Tammy) Kost and Scott Fugate.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Alva, Joseph and Edward Newman; and an infant sister.
She was a member of the First Christian Church of Carthage, the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and the Carthage Senior Citizens. She enjoyed fishing, gardening, canning and picking wild berries.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 11, at the Lamporte Funeral Home in Carthage with Rev. Phil Nevius officiating. Burial will be in the Webster Cemetery in Stillwell.
Memorials may be made to the Hancock County Volunteers for Diabetes.
