Ray served in the United States Army during the Korean War as a Master Sergeant in the Army Rangers. He was a former member of the local VFW and Bridgeport American Legion. He worked at Texaco and on his own as an electrician. He was a big fan of NASCAR (especially Jeff Gordon) and was very active in the Bridgeport American Legion where he had served as Commander.
He is survived by: his wife Darlene of Bridgeport: three daughters- Teresa Alspach and husband Chuck of Bridgeport, Belinda Sager and husband Kevin of Olney, and Tonya Berrong and husband Kevin of Carbondale: one son- Darrell Boatman and wife Ashli of Bridgeport: one brother- Virgil Boatman of Bridgeport: and one sister- Alberta Whittaker of Ohio: twelve grandchildren: ten great-grandchildren: and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death includes: his parents- Roy and Ethel Boatman: one grandson- Max Kristopher Schauff: two brothers- Russell and Ralph Boatman: and two sisters- Viola Newman and Marie Scherer.
Burial in the Bridgeport City Cemetery.
