RUTHERFORDTON, N.C. -- Marine Cpl. Christopher Stephen Ebert, 21, died Sept. 17 in the service of our country in Al Anbar Province, Iraq.

He was born in Portsmouth, Va. While serving with the Marines he received the Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, Overseas Deployment Medal, Combat Action Medal and the Global War on Terrorism Expedition Medal.

Survivors include his father, Gail Allen Ebert, Forest City, N.C.; his mother, Shirley Ivey Ebert, Union Mills, N.C.; brothers, Roger Anthony Kaid, Forest City, N.C. and Cpl. Brian David Ebert, Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii; his fiancee, Tracy Dixon, Lusby, Md.; and his grandmother, Pearl Ebert, Marion, Indiana.

Services are at 1 p.m. Oct. 2 in Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, with the Rev. Bruce Koontz and Chaplain John Cohen officiating. Burial with full military rites is in Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery, Forest City, N.C.

Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. Oct. 1 at Crowe's Mortuary. A gathering for friends and family will be in Chase High School cafeteria after the graveside services.

Memorials may be made to the American Red Cross.
