Dorothy R. "Ruth" Grose, 92, formerly of Lewistown, died at 8:35 a.m. Wednesday, July 2, 2014, at Locust Grove Retirement Village, Mifflin.
Born on Jan. 30, 1922, in Lewistown, she was a daughter of the late George E. and Carrie R. (Dippery) Mellinger.
In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by: her husband, Samuel H. Grose, on Sept. 27, 1997; three brothers, George, Donald and Clarence Mellinger; and three sisters, Helen McCalips, Betty McCorkle and Carrie Alexander.
She is survived by: her daughter, Carole Steinmann and husband, Russell, of New Mexico; grandchildren, Stacey Fanelle and husband, Matthew, and Shelly McClain and husband, David, and their son, Dresden, all of New Jersey; step-granddaughter, Catherine Cuffee and husband, David, of New Jersey; sisters, Phyllis Lutz and husband, Paul, of Lewistown, and Marie Mitchell, of Muncy.
Ruth was a graduate of Lewistown High School.
Earlier in life, she had worked at Lycoming Aviation Corp in Williamsport during World War II. She later worked at Erie Malliable for 17 years.
She was a member of First Baptist Church in Lewistown.
Early in life, she enjoyed painting Amish themed items and selling them at craft stores. She also enjoyed camping.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 7, 2014, at Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Homes Inc., Woodlawn, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Randy Traxler officiating.
A viewing will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, at the funeral home.
Interment will take place in St. Mark's Cemetery.
