Harry M. Wardin, 70, Deming resident died Sunday, Feb. 9, at Mimbres Memorial Hospital. Visitation was Wednesday afternoon at Bacas Funeral Chapel and the funeral service will be there at 1 p.m., today, with the Rev. Glenneth Harrington of First United Methodist Church of Deming officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Bayard National Cemetery with David Strain concluding the service. Military honors will be accorded.

He was born May 20, 1921 in Topeka, Kan., and had been a resident of Deming since 1980 having lived in Hinsdale, Ill. prior to that. He was general manager of information services for International Harvester in Broadview, Ill. until his retirement in 1978.

Harry was promoted to captain in the U.S. Air Force Reserves after World War II. While in Deming he was active as a helper with the Meals on Wheels program. He was a graduate of the University of Kansas with a degree in political science and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. He is survived by his wife, Stella, of the home; one son: Louis A. Wardin of Woodridge, Ill.; one daughter: Gloria Wardin Coppock of San Diego, Calif.; one brother, Charles M. Wardin of Denver, Colo.; and five grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Aubrey Mitchell, Walter Defner, Rex Holmes, Bill Peters and Ramon Martinez. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial contributions be made to Mimbres Memorial Hospital, 900 W. Ash St., Deming, NM 88030. Bacas Funeral Chapels in charge of arrangements.
