Sterling Pastor Dies in Chicago Hospital

Sterling, Ill, Feb. 21 - The Rev. W. J. Voeltz, 910 2nd Avenue, Sterling, pastor of the Second Avenue Lutheran Church since 1915, died at Walther Memorial Hospital, Chicago, this morning after an illness of several months. He had been taken to the hospital two weeks ago.

The body was brought to the Trouth Funeral home today but funeral arrangements had not been completed.

The Rev. Mr. Voeltz was born in West McHenry, Ill., July 4, 1886 and was graduated from Concordia College, Fort Wayne, Ind., in 1907. He completed his theological training at the Concordia Theological seminary, St. Louis, in 1910, and on Aug. 30, 1911 was married to Miss Frieda Schade, in St. Louis. She survives as do two daughters, Mrs. Esther Wadsworth and Mrs. Lillian Crawford, both of Sterling, two granddaughters, two sisters and three brothers.

The Rev. Mr. Voletz' first charge was at Cupar, Easkatchewan, Canada, where he spent a year before taking a pastorate in Rochelle. In October, 1915, he was installed as pastor of the Sterling church where he remained since.

Sterling, Ill., Feb. 22 - Funeral services will be held Saturday for the Rev. W. J. Voeltz, who died yesterday at a Chicago hospital.

Rev. Voeltz's body will lie in state at the Second Avenue Church from 1:30 p.m. Friday until Saturday morning.

Private funeral services will be held at 2:15 p.m. at the home with the Rev. F. H. Brunn of Rockford, officiating. At 2:30 p.m. rites will be conducted at the church by the Rev. Karl Lohrmann of Berwyn. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, where the Rev. Otto Lunnemeier of Rochelle, will officiate at services at the grave.

A public address system will carry the services at the church to the adjoining parish hall.
