Pvt. Union Army, War of the Rebellion, 1861-1865-Pvt Sampson died of disease on 8-18-1863 while serving at Bear Creek, Mississippi with Co. C of the 47th Illinois Infantry.

He, and two younger brothers, John T. & William B. enlisted in Peoria, Illinois on 8-18-1861 for three years with Co. C of the 47th Illinois Infantry under future Colonel W.A. Thrush of Peoria, and went into Federal Service that day. The boys came from Orion Twp. in Fulton County, Illinois. John & William survived the War.

Awards: Civil War Medal.
