Mrs. Hitchcock was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Helton of Wilkerson County. She was born in Irvington, and had lived in Moultrie 46 years.
Survivors included six children: sons C. M. Hitchcock, Jr. and Lt. Cmdr. W. O. Hitchcock, both of San Diego, California, and daughters Thelma Taylor (Mrs. Clubus W. Taylor) of Fort Walton Beach, Florida, Doris Poole (Mrs. C. E. Poole) of Albany, Georgia, Carrie (Mrs. M. J.) Poole and Marilyn Demott (Mrs. Lewis Erman Demott), both of Moultrie; three siblings: Dr. Bernard Lamar Helton of Sandersille, Georgia, John Earnest Jackson of McIntyre, Georgia, and Eva Viora Crutchfield (Mrs. Shelton S. Crutchfield)) of Toombsboro, Georgia; as well as 18 grandchildren.
