Salt Lake Tribune, The (UT) - September 26, 2000. Deceased Name: Fern Provost Searle
Fern Provost Searle, age 88, died peacefully on Sept. 23, 2000, at the Manor Care facility in South Ogden. Fern was born on July 21, 1912, in Midway, Utah, a daughter of Luke Alma and Mary Tricia Vail Provost. Her mother died a month later of complications following child-birth. Her father died when she was six years old. Fern was raised in Midway by her grandparents, David and Clarissa Provost. Fern loved to play softball and also played in local bands. She graduated from Wasatch High School in Heber City. Fern married Clarence "Kelly" Searle. They were later sealed in the Ogden LDS Temple. Fern also lived in Salt Lake City, San Francisco, Oakland CA, Clearfield, Provo, and in Ogden. She served in various church callings in the LDS Church with a special interest in music programs. Fern served as a ward chorister in many wards over a period of 71 years and was doing just that a few months prior to her death. She enjoyed playing bridge and had played in a bridge club with friends in Clearfield for over fifty years. She was active in school programs and served as PTA president at the Wasatch Elementary School in Clearfield. Fern became a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) and worked at the Dee and McKay-Dee Hospitals retiring after many years of service and acquiring the nickname of "Ferner".

Fern is survived by two sons and two daughters, Norman (Sharon) Searle, Riverdale; Patricia (Tom) Hartog, Guilford Conn.; John Searle, Ogden; Julia (Val) Hope, West Point. She is also survived by 18 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren. Funeral services are planned for 11 a.m., Thursday, September 28, 2000 at the Myers Mortuary 845 Washington Blvd in Ogden. Friends and family may call at the mortuary on Wednesday evening from 6-8 p.m. and from 10-10:45 on the day of the funeral. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. John Friden and his staff, the doctors, nurses, and staff at McKay-Dee Hospital, Hospice workers and the people at Manorcare for their excellent care during Fern's illness. Their efforts are appreciated.
