Vesta J Bacon was born June 12, 1925 to Leslie and Lulu (Landreth)Bacon of Hastings, Nebraska. Vesta at age 77, died April 10, 2003 at Faith Regional Hospital in Norfolk, Nebraska. Visitation was April 13, 2003 at the Wintz Funeral Home in Hartington.
Services were held April 14 at Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Paul Reimer officiating. Burial was in the Hartington City Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Tom Lammers, Todd Lammers, Scott Wedel, Robert Beig, Jr., Jim Lutmer, Kelly Kramer, and Chris Beig.
Vesta's first husband was Charles Henry Hourigan. Robert Beig was a close friend of Charles and Vestas and when Charles was killed in Mendota, Ill. Sept. 2,1954 in a trucking accident Robert took care of Vesta and Charles and Vesta's children. Charles and Vesta had five children Jeannie, Peggy, Charlotte, Jance, and Charles (Danny) Hourigan. Vesta and Robert were married May 3, 1955, in Denver, Colorado. They had two more children Robert, Jr. and DeAnn. When Robert and Vesta were married Robert nick-named Vesta, "Betsy".
Vesta grew up in Hasting. She graduated from Hastings High School. Vesta and Robert moved Los Angles, CA. after their marriage, but returned to Hartington in 1957.
After Vesta's children were in school she worked at Heimes Bakery, Neu Cheese Company, local cafes - part time; before being employed by Outdoorsman in Hartington.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Hartington. She loved family get togethers with all of her children, grand children and great grandchildren; and her brothers and sisters.
Vesta's favorite pastime was riding around with her husband, Robert, shopping with her kids, and having coffee or Pepsi with her friends. Vesta loved to dance and taught all of her children how to dance. She enjoyed crossword puzzles and word games. Vesta loved animals. The family had a variety of dogs and cats, which she treated as family. Robert Beig died Feb 21, 2003.
Survivors include five daughters and sons in law: Jeannie Lammers, Hartington, Peg Wedd, Blair, Charlotte Martiniz, Henderson, Colorado, Jance Snook, Hartington. DeAnn Beig and family friend Sue Koch from Omaha and sister in-law Darlene Miles of Columbus, NE. She had 12 grandchildren and 13 great grndchildren
She was preceeded in death by both husbands, her parents, one son Charles Danny Hourigan and son-in-law Harold Lammers.
