Survived by his wife, Norma Budd Barnett, Opelousas; mother, Mrs. J. P. (Marie Poulet) Barnett Sr., Opelousas; four sons, Jessie III and Brett Barnett, Lake Charles, and Duke Barnett, Scott; two sisters, Mrs. James (Miriam) Doherty Sr. and Mrs. Al (Lillian) Hynson, both of Opelousas; and six grandchildren.
He was a member of the American Legion; Elks Club of Opelousas; and Junior Chamber of Commerce.
He was president of Barnett Salvage Company; Lou Anna Trucking Company; and Barnett Realty Co., Opelousas. He owned and operated Barnett Crawfish Processing Plant, Henderson. He was a member of the board of directors of First Federal Savings and Loan Company and St. Landry Bank & Trust Co., Opelousas. He was former owner of Opelousas Oil Mill - Lou Anna Refinery. He was a graduate of Gulf Coast Military Academy, Gulf Port, Miss., and attended Springhill College, Mobile, Ala., and LSU.
