Luther Brown Armstrong, 68, a retired farmer of McDowell, died Friday afternoon, April 18. He was born Nov. 17, 1911 in Highland County, a son of the late William Arlie and Rachael Swadley Armstrong. Mr. Armstrong was a member of the Southall Presbyterian Church. He served in World War II, was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, and a member of the McDowell Volunteer Fire Department. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Mary Siron Armstrong of McDowell; a daughter, Mrs. Brenda Beverage of Monterey; two sisters, Mrs. Rebecca Hupman of Staunton and Mrs. Hattie Mackey of Burnsville; seven half-sisters, Mrs. Mildred Clements of Tennessee, Mrs. Arlene Trayer, Mrs. Betty Griffin and Mrs. Connie Townsend, all of Staunton, Mrs. Polly Ritchie of Middlebrook, Mrs. Faye Colaw of Blue Grass and Mrs. Dorothea Mitchell of Doe Hill; two half brothers, Glen and Sibert Armstrong, both of Staunton; a stepmother, Mrs. Margie Armstrong of Staunton Manor Nursing Home; two grandchildren, two step granddaughters; and a number of nieces and nephews. A funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the of Obaugh Funeral Home by the Rev. Charles Moore and the Rev. Jack Maxwell. Burial was in McDowell
