Mary Craig, sister of James Craig (perhaps children of Jacob Craig), was the first wife of William Orser. They were married around 1790 in Fredericton, New Brunswick. They had come to the area of New Brunswick with the American Loyalists from the state of New York after 1883. William settled his family near the mouth of the Becaguimec River. James Craig had settled his family up the river from there.

William and Mary had six children:
John Orser b. 1791
* Phebe Ann Orser b. 1793
Lydia Orser b. 1794
* Mariah Orser b. 1795
William Orser b. 1796
Elizabeth Orser b. 1799

[* also claimed by some to be children of James Craig and Mary Anna Blake.]

After Elizabeth was born, Mary became ill and died between 1799 and 1800.

William married 2nd, his wife's widowed sister-in-law, also named Mary (Mary Anna "Polly" Blake Craig). Many have confused these two women and the children who were born to each of them.

Mary Craig Orser may not be buried in this cemetery, but since the whereabouts of her burial are unknown, I created this memorial in the same cemetery as her husband.
