Tony Wright, age 60, of Murphy, NC passed away Friday, August 3, 2012.
He was a native of Cherokee County, NC and the son of Nettie Rogers Wright of Murphy, NC and the late James "Red" Wright. Tony was employed in mining construction for many years before joining the N.C.D.O.T., where he currently served as a supervisor of road construction. He loved his work.
Tony enjoyed hunting, fishing, guitar pickin' and gardening. He was known for his ice cream socials, with the most recent addition of the game cornhole. His famous handiwork was his heart-shaped fish pond. He loved spending time with his family and friends, especially son Matthew, who he called his "hero," his "best friend," dog Rudy, and his "other half," wife Becky.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his twin sons, Mark and Will Wright, and two brothers, Will and Tim Wright.
He is survived by mother, Nettie Wright; wife of 34 years, Becky Mauney Wright; one son, Matthew Levi Wright; four brothers, five sisters, and their spouses: Donnie Wright, Adam Wright and wife Tammy, Robin Wright and wife Rosemary, Erma Walker and husband Gene, Charlotte Coker and husband Leroy, Netta McFaddin and husband Monte, all of Murphy; Laura Morrow and husband Jeff, of Hope Mills, NC; Janet Garrett and husband Ernest, of Blairsville, GA; Tyrone Wright and wife Valerie, of New Harmony, IN; and beloved nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:30 PM, Wednesday, August 8, 2012 at the Townson-Rose Funeral Home Chapel in Murphy - all are welcome. A eulogy will be given by his son, The Rev. Matthew Wright. A Private Inurnment will be held at a later date in the Scroggs family cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be Clayton Garland, Sam Hammack, Mandy Johnson, "Gooch" Cook, Nancy Woodard and the employees of N.C.D.O.T.
The family will receive friends from 6-9 PM, Tuesday, August 7, 2012 at the Townson-Rose Funeral Home in Murphy.
