From a Columbia City Indiana newspaper dated Wednesday, April 6, 1910:

(From Saturday's Daily) The call of the death angel was heard Friday night and Saturday morning by two aged residents of the county, one of them Ancil M. Scovill of Collins street, this city, surviving his wife but one day less than a week. Mrs Scovill died Sunday afternoon, March 27, and at that time her husband was in good health and not complaining of any illness. Monday he was about the house and though advanced in years and crippled with rheumatism, he came to the busines part of town, more than a mile from his home. Tuesday he was taken ill and was inable to attend the funeral of his wife who was buried that day. He developed a severe case of pneumonia and never rallied strength enough to withstand the encroachments of the disease. Death came at 8 O'clock Saturday morning.

Ancil Milo Scovill was born in Michigan, July 16, 1840, and died in Columbia City April 2, 1910, at the age of 69 years, 8 months, and 16 days.

He followed farming for a livelihood and at the outbreak of the war enlisted in the First Michigan cavalry, Company E, serving throughout the rebellion and receiving his discharge at the close of the war. He served his country faithfully and well and while in the army contracted rheumatism and heart trouble which afflected him in his declining years. After the war was ended he returned to Michigan and on June 3, 1876, he was united in marriage to Nancy Maria Edinger. To them three children were born. They remain to mourn the death of their father, and are: Mrs. Lulu May Marzolf, Alberton, O.: Sawyer Elza Scovill, Pioneer, O.; and Mrs. Sarah E. Combs of this city. On the 21st of November, 1901, he was deprived of his first wife by death and he remained in Michigan till he came to this city to live a few years ago. His daughter, Mrs. Combs, lived next to Mrs. Sauerman and he became acquainted with her in that way, joining her in wedlock July 10, 1908. One brother R. C. Scovill of Frontier, Mich., survives him. Mr.s Scovill was a member of the United Brethern church and the funeral will take place from that church in this city at 4 p.m. Sunday afternoon. Rev. L. L. Shaffer officiating; burial in South Park cemetery.

**Originally thought to be buried in Richland Township Cemetery since his name is on the stone, there is only a birthdate and no death date. There are also no official records of him being buried here.**

Here is the memorial for the actual burial spot.
