Funeral services for Mrs. Callie Tommie Chewning, 78 years of age, were held Saturday, Dec. 29 at the Asbury church with the Rev. F. A. Sanders in charge. Burial was in the Griffin cemetery. Mrs. Chewning died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Billie J. Todd, near Coburg, on Friday. She was the widow of the late Willis S. Chewning and was a member of the Asbury church. Surviving are two other daughters, Mrs. T. B. Rice, Rt. Five, Mrs. L. C. Harwell, Jacksonville, Ky., and a son, Griffin Chewning, Route Two. She also leaves two sisters and a brother: Mrs. Sara Sublett, county, Mrs. Ida Stokes, California, and Henry Griffin, county, and twelve grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. The pallbearers were: Jim Will Rice, Ben Rice, Wm. Chewning, Arvin Chewning, George Griffin, and Dennis Beard. Flowergirls were: Geneva Chewning, Alma Chewning, Pauline Chewning, Ida Mary Beard, Stella Rice, Katherine Rice, and Mrs. Shelby Lee. ~The News-Journal, Thursday, January 3, 1946
