Murder victim. Florence Newsom, her husband, Robert Newsom, and her mother-in-law, Hattie Newsom were shot to death in their home by Fritz Klenner on May 18, 1985. Florence's daughter, Susie and her first cousin, Fritz had developed an unnaturally close relationship. Florence's husband, Robert had planned to testify in court on May 23,1985, in favor of his daughter's ex-husband getting more visitation rights to his grandsons, instead they were buried on that day. On June 3, 1985, officers from several agencies attempted to arrest Klenner for the murders. As the police closed in on their suspect Klenner gave them a slow speed chase down Highway 150, north of Greensboro, with Susie and her sons in his Chevy Blazer. At one point, Klenner opened fire with automatic weapons, wounding one Greensboro officer. Fritz ended their lives when he detonated a bomb that was under the passenger seat. Lynch's two small sons, already poisoned and shot, were in the back of the blazer. Jerry Bledsoe's book "Bitter Blood" tells the story of the obsessive love, and bitter custody battles that connected three wealthy families by marriage and left nine people dead. There was also a 1994 made for tv movie "In the Best of Families: Marriage, Pride & Madness" starring Harry Hamlin and Kelly McGillis.
