She was married to Joseph Zihlman at Germanville on April 16, 1885, and the couple became the parents of ten children, nine of whom survive. One son passed away in infancy. They lived on a farm south of Wayland for 35 years. After retiring in 1920, they moved to Wayland. After her husband's death in 1930, she continued to reside there.
She suffered a fall in her home in October 1945, and after spending many weeks in a hospital she was moved to the home of her daughter in Hedrick. She never fully recovered from the fall and continued to fail in health until her death.
Surviving are the nine children: Mrs. Elizabeth Gambell, Mrs. Marie Fjelland, Mrs. Margaret Lewis, Mrs. Minnie McClintic, Mrs. Eva Wittmer, Joseph, Andrew, John and Louis; sixteen grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and two sisters; Mrs. George Burk of Oskaloosa and Mrs. John Bauer of Wellman.
