Mrs. Vicki Mae Hutchens Batten, 62, a resident of Midway School Road, died Friday, July 27, 2012 at the Hinkle Hospice House in Lexington. She was born in Davidson County, July 5, 1950 a daughter of Worth Garland Hutchens, Sr. and Elizabeth Caroline Byerly Hutchens and was a lifelong resident of Davidson County. She was a member of Fairview United Methodist Church in Thomasville where she served as a Sunday school teacher and a former choir member. She founded "Vicki's Change for Change" to help fund backpacks of food for needy children. She was a former employee of Carolina Underwear in Thomasville and was last employed with Jostens in Winston Salem. On July 21, 1994 she was married to Donnie Lawrence Batten who survives of the home. Also surviving is a daughter, Dawn Leonard and her husband Ashley of Winston Salem; a son, Bobby Byerly and his wife MaryAnne of Mocksville; a step-daughter, Janice Batten of Thomasville; a step-son, Donnie R. Batten and his wife Katherine of Archdale; her father, Worth Garland Hutchens, Sr. of Winston Salem; two sisters, Mary Hinson and her husband Butch of Trinity and Susan Lear and her husband Bill of St. Cloud, FL; three brothers, Worth Hutchens, Jr. of Winston Salem, John Hutchens and his wife Rosalie of Greenville, NC, and Bruce Hutchens and his wife Daisy of Winston Salem; nine grandchildren, Tatum Edwards, Beau Byerly, Trot Byerly, Mary Grace Leonard, Naomi Leonard, Harrison Batten, Karrington Batten, Kinsleigh Batten, and Zachary Russell. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews. In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Jimmy Hutchens and David Hutchens. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 11 AM at Fairview United Methodist Church by the Rev. Brian Crady and the Rev. Lisa Wishon. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will remain at J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home in Thomasville until placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service. The family will be at the funeral home Monday from 6 until 8 PM and other times at the residence. Memorials may be directed to Fairview United Methodist Church Backpack Ministry, 2876 Old Greensboro Road, Thomasville, NC 27360 or to Hospice of Davidson County, 200 Hospice Way, Lexington, NC 27292.
